£1.8 million gross settlement for catastrophic injuries

Background

Irvings Law Limited secured £1.8 million gross settlement for a young man who suffered catastrophic injuries.

As part of the Legal team Sinead Woods, Senior Associate instructed Tony Goff at Exchange Chambers, Liverpool.

The Claimant sustained a moderate brain injury and a fractured skull, he also sustained complex facial fractures, spinal and rib fractures, in addition to the loss of sight in one eye and loss of hearing in one ear.  The Claimant was a rear seat passenger in a vehicle involved in a head on collision when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Representation

The Claimant remained in hospital for several weeks but made great progress and was able to be discharged. It was a long road to recovery thereafter.  Irvings Law employed a specialist brain injury case manager who in turn put in place a rehabilitation team to assist the Claimant.

The Defendant insurers were obstinate and refused to make any interim payments which affected the delivery of consistent rehabilitation for the Claimant. They continued to make increasing offers to settle to the Claimant in order to avoid making those payments. Irvings law had to take steps to litigate in order to make some head way for the Claimant.

Resolution

An ultimate settlement was achieved in the sum of £1.8 million gross which will allow the Claimant to ensure he has the support from a rehabilitation team so that he can have the best future possible.  He can now focus on rebuilding his life supported by his family and with any professional support he requires.
