Litigator

Irvings Law is a specialist litigation practice located in Liverpool city centre and established for over 40 years. We are seeking an ambitious qualified solicitor or CILEX to join our team. Salary dependent on experience to £33,500 plus bonus.

You must have a minimum 2-3 years plus claimant litigation experience. You must be able to handle, and have a proven track record of, taking claims through all steps to trial. Experience in Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence or Housing Disrepair claims would be particularly relevant for this role.

Rather than processing volume claims, our focus is on maximising outcomes for clients through our litigation expertise and high standards of service. We offer a generous bonus scheme based on billing which will add significantly to the basic salary on offer for a candidate with the ambition, drive and personal organisation the role requires. There is the flexibility to work remotely for one day per week if desired.

The role:

  • Running a caseload of pre- and post-litigation claims
  • Comply with Pre Action-Protocols
  • Draft Letters of Claim
  • Collation of special damages
  • Negotiation and settlement
  • Liaise with counsel
  • Issue Court Proceedings
  • Manage all steps to trial
  • Conduct enforcement proceedings

 

Legal Assistant

Purpose

To contribute as a member of the Business Support team, to the provision of a complete administrative and secretarial support service to the fee earners in Irvings.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Legal Assistant reports to the Office manager and has the following responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • To produce accurate/timely documents and correspondence
  • Provide legal support to the fee earners and act as a legal resource for the wider team, providing help where required
  • To operate workflows and processes within case management systems accurately
  • To undertake filing as required
  • To undertake scanning, copying and printing as required
  • Prepare and send e-bundles
  • To make appointments, arrange meetings and maintain a diary
  • To answer the phone and take/relay accurate/timely telephone messages
  • To undertake reception, post room and general administrative duties as require
  • Liaison with clients, defendants and other professionals
  • Undertake training as required
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects and initiatives as required

Scope/Size

The Legal Assistant contributes to the provision of a complete administrative and secretarial support service to the fee earners.

Skills/Experience Required

  • Excellent audio and copy typing skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and good time management
  • Positive can do attitude and approach
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Superb interpersonal skills
  • Familiar with case management and document production systems
  • Numerate
  • Legal costs experience
  • P4W experience – not essential as full training will be given
  • Experience with using BigHand – not essential as full training will be given
