A Horrific Head Injury

Our client Joe, a pedestrian, was hit while crossing the road. He had looked both ways to ensure the road was clear, and was half way across when a car came at speed and collided with him. Upon impact, Joe hit the car windshield and was then projected onto the ground. He received significant head, knee and psychological injuries. Joe’s head injury required four operations and skin grafts. He then got an infection which left scarring on his scalp. He had to miss a large amount of work and earnings, and we were there along the way to support him throughout.

Joe’s claim was submitted against insurance, but the company didn’t respond to us. The next step taken was to issue court proceedings; again we received no response. We then got judgement in default and only then did we hear from the insurance company; they tried to make an application to set it aside. However, the court said too late and the judgement would stand. Basically this meant Joe’s settlement would be determined by the courts if the insurance company would not settle. The case ended up settling for £83,000. We were happy with the outcome as the settlement could help Joe move forward with his life after this collision.
