Irvings Law, who specialise in Actions Against the Police, have successfully represented a client in a claim for compensation against Merseyside Police. Unfortunately, this client wishes to remain anonymous for the purposes of this blog.
Mr B was at home when Merseyside Police Officers kicked his door open and proceeded to grab hold of him without any explanation or warning. The attending Police Officers then began to search Mr B’s property and when this commenced, it was soon realised that Merseyside Police had gone to the wrong address as they were supposed to search number 12 not number 10 which is where Mr B lived. When this was noticed, the attending Police Officers stopped what they were doing and started to leave Mr B’s house; laughing as they did so and making mockery comments such as “we better lock his door” when they were leaving. Mr B was understandably shaken up and afraid for his safety given that his door had been kicked in and was now unsecure so he called 101 to raise a complaint about what had happened.
During the Professional Standards investigation, Mr B also called specialist Actions Against the Police Solicitors, Irvings Law, for assistance where it was immediately acknowledged that what happened to him was completely wrong and without hesitation, offered to act for him by way of “no win, no fee”. In response to Mr B’s complaint and claim for infringement to his privacy and unnecessary restriction to liberty for a short while as well as the damage caused, Merseyside Police offered to settle Mr B’s case.
Without needing to issue or serve Court proceedings, Merseyside Police agreed to pay Mr B £2,000.00 plus the payment of his legal costs for what happened.
