Neglect by care home staff results in hospital admission for elderly gentleman

Background

Irvings Law recently acted for the family of an elderly gentleman called William, who suffered a period of extensive neglect whilst resident at a care home.

William had a history of vascular dementia, and as such required care home admission to meet his increasing care needs. He was considered to be a vulnerable person and was reliant on the care of two members of staff to meet his daily care needs.

Following a period of neglect at the home, William was admitted to hospital with severe incontinence associated dermatitis in multiple areas on his lower body. The gentleman was in extreme discomfort as his wounds had become septic, and he endured a period of extreme pain and distress before passing away a month later.

The injuries that William sustained were entirely avoidable and directly caused by a failure on behalf of the care home to check his skin, identify his dermatitis and provide effective treatment. Failure to do so was neglect on behalf of the care home.

Representation & Resolution

Irvings Law acted swiftly on behalf of William’s family to establish why and how William was injured and achieve the best possible financial settlement.

Irvings law fought to secure an early admission of liability. Although no amount of financial compensation can take away William’s pain and suffering, the case helped to shed light on the failings of the home, in the anticipation that their practices will change for the better going forwards.
