PA Housing leaves kitchen repairs unaddressed for 8 years

Background

Since 2016 the Claimant has complained to PA Housing regarding disrepair to the property, including an ongoing leak from the bathroom through the kitchen ceiling, damp and mould, and a kitchen which is not fit for purpose.

The landlord has failed to rectify the issues so on that basis the claimant instructed Irvings Law to achieve compensation as well as getting the defects fixed.

Representation

A surveyor was instructed who found an array of problems within the property. Some of the surveyors’ findings included: damp, mould, old kitchen units, damage from a bathroom leak, and inadequate bathroom fittings which did not conform to standards.

Resolution

Proceedings were issued and the defendant made an offer of £2,400.00 plus works to be completed, in response we made an offer of £7,500.00 plus works. The case was listed for trial and the defendant made a further offer of £4,500.00, following further negotiations the case was settled for a more appropriate total of £5,100.00. The client was able to receive the compensation that they deserved as well as having the issues fixed in their property within a 90-day period.
