Richmond Housing Partnership make £4,000 payout after 4-year battle

Background

The disrepair began in Ms. W’s property in July 2020 when a leak from her shower began to cause damp and mould, along with damaging the plasterwork. Ms. W’s problems continued in 2022 with a water ingress into her bedroom from a neighbours balcony and a defective heating installation.

Despite complaints for over two years to her landlord, Richmond Housing Partnership (RHP) Limited, only inspections were completed to assess the level of disrepair.

Representation

In April 2022, Ms. W instructed us to act on her behalf. Upon attending the property, the surveyor found disrepair with a value of over £4,600.00.

Richmond Housing Partnership Limited did make offers to compensate Ms. W for the disrepair in her property, however, they were not acceptable given the length of time, Ms. W had had to suffer due to their failure to keep the property in good condition.

They failed to comply with Court directions on two occasions and judgment was entered, with a disposal hearing listed for April 2024.

Resolution

To prevent the matter from continuing further and causing more distress and inconvenience to Ms. W, Richmond Housing Partnership Limited, agreed to pay Ms. W £4,000.00, and carry out the works as recommended by the surveyor within 90 days.

We hope that Ms. W no longer feels embarrassed about the condition of her home, and she can enjoy the same with her young child.
