Southern Housing settle out of court for two-year housing disrepair dispute

Background

Since moving into the property, Miss H suffered with widespread damp and mould in every room. After 2 years of continuous complaining to her Landlord (Southern Housing) with no result, Miss H instructed ourselves to commence a housing disrepair claim.

Representation

On behalf of our client, we instructed an expert surveyor to attend her home who found approximately £5,500.00 worth of disrepair – which our client had been attempting to have resolved for a number of years. Unfortunately, Southern Housing didn’t respond to our efforts to have the property repaired, so court proceedings were issued shortly after.

Resolution

As soon as the matter was listed for a trial, the Landlord was eager to enter into settlement negotiations, which resulted in a positive outcome, whereby our client received £2,500.00 compensation – plus all identified works to be completed within 90 days. We trust all works will now be completed to the satisfactory standard outlined in the settlement agreement; to allow Miss H to feel comfortable in her home once more.
